What is Citrix?

Citrix is a universal client for accessing desktop applications via a server solution. MIT's Citrix implementation allows users to access Windows-only enterprise applications, such as BrioQuery, in a remote desktop environment. Applications such as CCure, Adonis and SAPgui are also hosted on the MIT Citrix servers, and are accessed by both Macintosh and Windows users.

Installation and first launch

  • You must uninstall all previous versions of the Citrix receiver in order to open Citrix apps. Note the Citrix version you may have from a previous institution is not guaranteed to work with our Citrix servers.

Using Citrix to access applications

  1. Navigate in your web browser with certificates to http://citrixapps.mit.edu.
With the Citrix Receiver client successfully installed, you should see the following logon prompt:
  2. Enter your Kerberos username (portion of your MIT email address before the @mit.edu).
  3. Enter your Kerberos password (password used to check your MIT email).
Result: Applications available from the MIT Citrix servers are displayed.
  4. Click the icon for your selected application.

Note for off-campus users

To access applications via Citrix from off-campus locations or from a private subnet, you will need to connect to the MIT VPN (Virtual Private Network) before connecting to Citrix.

See: VPN at MIT

How can I obtain a certificate for Internet Explorer on the Citrix server?

  1. Click the Internet Explorer icon to launch IE.
  2. Navigate to http://ca.mit.edu
  3. Enter your Kerberos/Athena username and password and your MIT ID.
  4. Click Next and follow the prompts, accepting all default values.
NOTE: There are two Citrix servers. If you access IE via Citrix a second time, and happen to access the other server, you will need to obtain a certificate in IE for that server as well.

  • Certificates expire annually at the end of July. You will need to delete the old certificate and obtain a new one.
